Mediation is a confidential process where parents attempt to reach resolution on custody and parenting time matters. Sometimes parents meet in the same room; other times they are in separate rooms and the mediator “shuttles” between them to negotiate agreement. Some parents attend mediation with their attorneys and others participate in mediation unrepresented (“pro se”). Mediation can take place during the divorce process or after divorce if a dispute arises (called “post decree”). The mediator’s role is to keep conversations child-focused and civil.
